Reviews for "Understanding Autism"
One of the standout aspects of this book is its discussion on technology. Whether through communication apps, assistive tools, or digital platforms that foster connection, technology is presented as a powerful ally in supporting autistic individuals. The author skilfully highlights how innovation can bridge gaps, providing opportunities for self-expression and independence.
I love the way the author has focused on nurturing and celebrating autistic strengths. As the title says, it's a very easy to read book and isn't full of technical jargon. This book has some great techniques to try and help with challenging behaviour. It's well written and I would recommend for any parent who is currently going through the diagnosis process.
As a professional with 20+ years experience working with autistic children and their families, this book is an excellent starting point for parents who are beginning the journey of understanding their child better whilst having to battle through the myriad of hoops (and jargon) they will encounter as they advocate for their child to ensure their needs are understood and met.
A very simple and easy to read book which gives support suggestions and strategies for the parents and children. Some of the practical tips are so easy to implement. Most books focus on only the challenging behaviour so I like the fact the author has written quite a few stories of Hope & Triumph.
This book is packed full of information which starts by giving the reader an understanding of what having autism actually means. It continues by addressing common autistic myths and then goes on to discuss the diagnosis process giving hints and tips to help. It's a fantastic and as the title says "Easy to Read" with no jargon.
